As parents and kids grapple with the realities of COVID-19 and distance learning becoming the new norm, Newsicle, a newly launched news trivia game for families makes the news interesting again. Newsicle delivers carefully curated trivia based on what’s happening in the news. For parents looking for ways to connect with their kids and real ways to keep distance learning interesting, Newsicle offers a simple and fun way for the whole family to learn together.

Newsicle posts a trivia question every weekday. Users answer the trivia question and receive a short explanation of the correct answer. On the Newsicle website, users can also access a news article relating to that week’s themed trivia questions. All trivia questions, answers, and news article are written with the family in mind — simple, interesting, and discussion-worthy. Trivia participants may qualify for our monthly raffle.

Co-founders Joann Suen and Sapna Satagopan, parents themselves, know the importance of making news interesting for the entire family. They are also the co-founders of Xyza: News for Kids, a news platform that brings thoughtful and relatable news to tweens and teens since 2016. With Newsicle, Suen and Satagopan are highlighting one of Xyza’s most popular features: news trivia.

Co-founder Joann Suen says, “Trivia’s such a great way to remember nuggets of information. Some of the factoids that I still remember today are from games I played when I was a kid. Plus, trivia is something that the entire family can enjoy. As we all cope with the new normal of distance learning and struggle with how to talk to our kids about different news topics, the hope is that Newsicle will help make things easier for the whole family.”

Newsicle is a free product that can be accessed at https://www.newsicle.co anytime and from anywhere. The first series of trivia questions focuses on the coronavirus and the team plans to cover topics about Women’s History Month, Earth Day, Sports, and more in the coming weeks.
